Yoga Chikitsa - Yoga Therapy
A course that identifies all the ways in which Yoga practices aid in an individuals path to health and wellbeing.
Yoga Chikitsa is assisted yoga or yoga as therapy.
The many practices yoga offers, such as asana (postures) geared to cleanse , strengthen and tone the body at the level of organs, tissues, systems and cells; breath work to enhance oxygenation, body cleansing and overall health including methods to calm and balance the nervous system and mind; yoga nidra (yogic relaxation) to reduce stress and increase healing potential; meditation to train an indivdual toward a calm, focused and strengthened mind while enhancing feelings of enhanced wellbeing; yoga psychology to better understand the nature of the mind and its individual nuance and expression, training empowerment and skill at the level of mental tendencies and habits, methods that increase self knowledge and understanding..
The Yoga Chikitsa program trains a profoundly wholistic approach to wellness and finding ones way in life.
Subjects will include
the theory and practice of all yogic methods
anatomy and physiology
methods of one on one consultation work
counselling and communication skills
case studies
ayurvedic medicine
yoga philosophy and psychology
a basic understanding of Sanskrit language
comparisons with western medical science
effects and benefits of western medicinal pharmaceuticals
ethics and safe business practices
making referrals and working collaboratively with other health practitioners
The training includes 600 hours training a composit of online study and in person training extended over two years with assignments and assessments to be completed before certificate is issued.
At present Shantarasa offers a foundations course into Yoga Chikitsa (yoga as therapy) which will be the entry point to this course.
The full 2-year training will commence in September 2023.
