Shantarasa Yoga Darshana delivers deep and comprehensive trainings in yoga education.

The senior teachers Sadhana and Keval draw from their extensive experience and interface with traditional forms of Yoga extending over decades. They have been fortunate to have received personal guidance from exceptional masters from a long line of Siddhas. As a consequence their way of teaching is unique in the worldwide culture of yoga as it exists today.

The instruction is in traditional forms of practice and study. This is a step away from contemporary forms of ‘postural yoga’. Postural yoga tends to stop at muscles and bones and features of human anatomy in very specific forms of yoga architecture. Traditional Yoga seeks an inner alignment to the currents of energy that sustain, animate and heal the body/mind from within. The subtle energy (prana) is amplified through conscious forms of practice that free up the channels through which it flows, increasing the space in which it moves. The physical and subtle functions of the human form are empowered and refined for greater integration of all body systems.

Traditional forms of practice harness the scattered and busy energies of the mind to a point of focus and presence. The mind can then become a powerful instrument enhancing the qualities of discernment, perception, joyous calm and stillness. Stillness in asana with conscious breath gives entry to the liminal spaces of our subtle being. The physical practices of traditional yoga purify the form and open us to our depths beyond the dominance of external orientation and image.

The Shantarasa aim is to equip ‘teachers’ with all the requisite skills to safely guide and inspire others. The skills gained far exceed the study of physical postures, extending into the practices and foundational knowledge that inspire a more balanced mind and approach to life.  The physical postures are also given deeper value and meaning. The philosophy of asana enables students to better understand and communicate the unique benefits the asanas generate, placing them in a more wholistic context.

The trainings are a combination of study and practice. The study components include lively discussions that invariably touch on all things life related in meaningful and provocative ways. The practices engage an integration of body, breath, mind and awareness,  facilitating change and expansion. Students find ways to re-contextualise their lives ascribing deeper value and meaning to their choices, directions and purpose.

We invite you to join us in exploring the rich experiential levels and practical wisdom Yoga has to offer.
